Ranelagh
The Huon Valley, situated around half an hour south of Hobart in Tasmanias south, is a treat for the senses. This region has so much to offer the visitor, and is an increasingly popular getaway destination. Attractions like the Tahune Air walk, Hastings caves and thermal springs, mix delightfully with the vineyards, restaurants, heritage buildings and artisans dotted throughout the various parts of the valley. The landscape of farmland, rolling hills and the magnificent Sleeping Beauty, fuel the inspiration that results in the many creative pursuits present here.
Just outside of Huonville, in the small township of Ranelagh, is the idyllic world of Matildas. A luxury guest house and welcoming family home, the property is set among farmland and orchards, in a world unto itself, where time stands still.

The house is set on five acres with well established gardens, renowned in the Huon Valley Tasmania, featuring many very old trees and shrubs. In the spring, thousands of bulbs reach for the sun - daffodils, iris, tulips, and blue bells, to name a few. Matilda's of Ranelagh is famous for the puha bush, which originated in South America. Its exotic flowers can be seen in late summer, and apparently there are only two puha bushes in Tasmania.
The garden truly reflects the seasons - there is something to attract the eye year round. On the lower boundary of the property, Mountain River runs. This spills into the magnificent Huon River, a kilometre or so from Matilda's of Ranelagh.
Matildas of Ranelagh is considered one of the most important houses in the Huon Valley and Tasmania and in April of 1970, the Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and Princess Anne took tea in what is now The Matilda Suite.
A warm and welcoming family home as well as a luxury guest house, Matildas has a reputation for being one of the friendliest places to stay in Tasmania and has been awarded a 4 1/2 star AAA rating. When considering Tasmania accommodation then Matilda's is the place to indulge yourself.
Furnished with antiques and collectables, Matildas exists in an idyllic world of times past and remains faithful to the Victorian period in which the house was built.
The heritage bed and breakfast consists of the following rooms:
Each room is elegantly enhanced by period features and furnishings, while concessions to modern life include central heating, reverse cycle air conditioning and underfloor heating in all bathrooms.
Matilda's of Ranelagh is in an idyllic spot in the heart of the Huon Valley, and an easy distance to all this region has to offer. We are 2kms from Huonville, 30 minutes from Hobart and at least 100 years from the rest of the world.
